Hotel Search Tips

  1. Open your favorite mapping website in a separate tab or window and zoom to your destination city. Study: parts of town and local transportation.
  2. Write down how many nights and which nights you plan to stay. Use a calendar so you get the dates exactly right. Write down latest hour you can arrive and when you plan to leave.
  3. Decide if you want to be within walking distance to your host hotel or if you are willing to commute from a remote location. This will determine the range of hotels as candidates.
  4. Write down your travel budget range and your hotel requirements. Write down your transportation options.
  5. Search for your hotel by selecting a destination city to the left. You will be taken immediately to a hotel search page specific to that city.
  6. You will get a page that lists hotels that have rooms available in the area of your destination, ranked by popularity by default. Set the date range. Modify number of rooms, if needed.
  7. Access the Advanced Search option. You can specify a hotel, star rating, required amenities and price range.
  8. This hotel search site uses Google Maps to mark hotels. Using Google Maps in a separate tab will get you more features, such as bus routes, restaurants, etc.).
  9. If you shop by price, sort by lowest price. With each hotel option is its city location. This is where learning the parts of the destination city pays off. Write down each hotel that meets your criteria.
  10. When you click to view details, you will lose your search page. Open each hotel to a new tab or window to save your search page.
  11. Most customer reviews give useful information about hotel condition and quality of service. Some are cranky. Others give glowing reviews. Read enough to get a fair assessment of the hotel.
